What is NIA?
Nia is a whole body (holistic), somatic movement practice. It is a powerful fusion of dance arts, mindfulness practices and eastern philosophy from the martial arts. It is also improving body awareness and Nia focuses on the connection between the mind and body, using movement sequences as a form and offering opportunity freely expressing yourself, all within one class. Based on 52 simple moves with endless variations, promoting the very spice of a joyful session and movement class in a non-judgment, safe space, letting you dance on your peace. Do what feels good for your body!
Do I need any dance experience to join?
No prior dance experience is required to join our sessions. Our classes are designed to be inclusive and accessible to individuals of all skill and fitness levels. Nia aim is to be available for everybody and every body.
What should I wear to a session?
Wear comfortable clothing that allows for free movement. It's best to choose attire that you feel relaxed in and that doesn't restrict your range of motion. Nia practiced barefoot to enhance your body awareness and connection a to the ground or floor; but feel free to use soft dance shoes/socks if needed.
Do I need prior medical proof to practice Nia?
No, if you are in good overall health, you do not need a medical clearance. If you have any chronic disease or are pregnant, please ask your doctor.
Is there an age limit for attending classes?
At the moment, I teach 16 years of age people or above!
